Spotlight on Alexa Conners: The Intersection of MMA and Boutique Cigars

In the world of mixed martial arts, few names are beginning to resonate as strongly as Alexa Conners. With a fierce fighting style and a growing fanbase, Conners is carving her niche both inside and outside the octagon. Recently, this talented athlete has been making headlines not just for her impressive performances, but also for her exciting new partnership with Honeybee Cigars, a brand known for its commitment to quality and craftsmanship.

As she continues to take on opponents in the cage, she has taken on the fight of mental health with her organization In Your Corner. Conners has also embraced a lifestyle that may surprise some of her fans—a love of boutique cigars. In an exclusive Q&A, we dive deeper into her journey as a fighter, her newfound passion for cigars, and what it means to be supported by a brand that shares her values.

1. **What inspired you to create your mental health organization, and how has your personal journey influenced this mission?**

Almost 10 years ago, my father killed his girlfriend then took his own life. That experience was obviously tragic and traumatizing. Growing up with a father who was mentally ill created chaos in my childhood and early adulthood. This created my own mental illness and unhealthy thinking. I want to help those who want change and who want to seek help. The journey is hard but worth seeking. So much more to life than the battles created in your head.

2. **Can you share some of the key initiatives or programs your organization is currently running?

We provide high performance coaching for fighters. If you feel stuck in your head or fear is overcoming your capability to perform at your best, we can help. We also help connect you to a therapist in your area if you would like to seek day to day counseling.

3. **How do you see the relationship between mental health and sports, particularly in high-pressure disciplines like MMA?

MMA is mostly mental over physical. If your head isn't in the fight, you will not perform at your best ability. It doesn't matter how well conditioned you are. There is a direct correlation between mental state of mind and performance.

4. **Why did you choose to partner with Honeybee Cigars, and what does this collaboration mean for your advocacy work?

I think Honeybee cigars has the same mission of creating a sense of community. We have the same drive to help others.I think our partnership will reach a lot of different people in many communities.

5. **What role do you believe cigars play in fostering community and communication among enthusiasts?

When you sit down to relax and enjoy a cigar, it creates an atmosphere of comfortability. It allows for conversations to take place.

6. **Can you discuss a moment in your life or career when you had to overcome significant mental health challenges?

I found MMA 13 years ago. It was at a crucial time in my life. I think throughout my amateur MMA career, I was able to push through adversity from my personal life and translate the pain to wins. This gave me a sense of purpose and a message to deliver to the ones who were secretly fighting their own mental health battles.

7. **How can boutique cigar events serve as platforms for discussing mental health awareness?

It reaches a different community that I may not normally reach. If can help, Im there.

8. **What advice would you give to fellow athletes who may be struggling with mental health issues but feel afraid to seek help?

We all have our own sh*t. But it's our job to handle it. No one is coming to save us but ourselves. I promise the journey is worth it. Your life and your peace of mind is worth fighting for.

9. **In your opinion, what changes need to happen within the sports community to better support mental health?

I think the toxic culture of "just get over it or "tough it Out" needs to stop. If we had open communication and compassion for those suffering daily, it wouldn't be so hard for people to get the help the need and to live better lives.

10. **What long-term goals do you have for your mental health organization, and how can your supporters contribute to those goals?

l would love for In Your Corner to be involved with every MIMA organization nationwide. I would love for every MMA gym to offer our services to their students. It always comes down to funding. Donations are always welcomed and appreciated ❤️. Find your why and fight like hell.
